About Us

Our Vision

Our vision for the Three Peaks Medical Clinic at Lincoln Peak is to develop a nonprofit medical facility unaffiliated or partnered with any hospital or outside entity, staffed by dedicated volunteer physicians who are passionate about Sugarbush, The Mad River Valley and being outdoors. The medical clinic will also actively contribute to furthering medical education through the facilitation of wilderness and sports related medical research. Continuous operations of the Three Peaks Medical Clinic will rely on donations from community members, resort guests and other philanthropical agencies.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide the mountain community with access to on mountain medical care as well as serving to provide a venue for facilitating wilderness and sports medicine research. This continuum of care delivered by volunteer physicians will provide patients with a diagnosis, treatment plan, pain relief, and in many cases save a trip to the Emergency Room. How reassuring it is to head home with an x-ray “in hand” or a dislocated shoulder back in place.

Our History + Our Future.

In 2019, the orthopedic clinic that had been located at Lincoln Peak closed after several decades of serving the outdoor community in the Mad River Valley. The former clinic treated over 400 patients a year and served as a means to ease the burden on local hospital emergency rooms as well as to provide immediate on-mountain care to community members and guests of the Mad River Valley. A small group of local residents, with the backing of Sugarbush Resort, decided to form a non-profit medical facility with a limited scope of practice, staffed by volunteer Orthopedic and Emergency Room physicians to fill the void left by the closing of the former medical facility left. Our initial operating hours will be weekends and holidays (based on volunteer interest). We opened o December 16, 2022.

The founding board of directors Chad Borofsky, Barb Masser M.D., and Win Smith decided that a more altruistic business model for Three Peaks Medical Clinic would be in line with the culture of the resort and the local community.  We feel that a local clinic, led by people who are invested in and love the Mad River Valley, funded by donations from local community members and resort guests will be able to consistently serve the resort as well as the local community for the long term. Initially, donations will be appreciated for medical evaluation and assessment. There will be a fee for all technical services (e.g., x-ray, sutures, ultrasound).  All services will be provided on site. All fees and donations will be collected on site at the time of service.  The scope of practice at the facility will be similar to the former UVMMC orthopedic clinic:

  • Primary evaluation and treatment of medically stable orthopedic and other traumatic injuries

  • Closed reduction and splinting of fractures and dislocations

  • Simple laceration repair and minor procedures

  • Evaluation and treatment of primary medical complaints such as sore throat, flu, musculoskeletal pain, gastro-intestinal complaints

  • Evaluation and treatment of medically stable occupational injuries

Diagnostic and therapeutic services available on site:

  • Digital plain film imaging - (x-rays)

  • No scheduled substances on site

  • Point of care glucometer
